Quality Group Limited (QGL), Tanzania's leading business conglomerate was
the brainchild of Mr. Mehbub Manji, the third generation patriarch of the Manji
family. Established in the late sixties as a motor works company, the
organisation started expanding operations in the seventies, and today the Group
has grown into one of Tanzania's largest and most respected business
organisations. The Group's success can be attributed to its entrepreneurial
vision, its ability to identify profitable business opportunities and implement
them successfully.
The company commenced its expansion process in the late 70s and was formally
incorporated into a limited company in 1975. With the onset of liberalization
in Tanzania in early nineties, when socialism gave way to a free market
economy, Quality Group made substantial capital investments to rapidly
diversify and expand its business portfolio. The resultant structure was a
group of carefully planned vertically and horizontally integrated companies
that allowed large economies of scale and presence across sectors.
QGL today, is constituted of a diversified portfolio of operating companies
engaged in a variety of sectors including, Automotive, Engineering Products,
International Trade, Logistic Solutions and Warehousing, Real-estate
Development, Food Processing, Consulting and a number of other business
activities. The Group's management structure resembles that of any leading MNC
and is divided into functions like corporate and financial management, treasury
operations, human resource management, production, marketing, sales and
servicing and engineering.
The Group is spearheaded by a member of the Manji family, who works closely with
an experienced and senior team of professionals, comprising, both local and
international expertise. The Group's operations are managed by a team of more
than 2500 professionals. The organization's head quarters are housed in
"Quality Plaza" on Nyerere Road in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The Plaza is a
noted landmark and one of the most modern office and commercial complexes in
Tanzania.
